About the Author

Soul Peel is a visual journal created by photojournalist Julia Hayes-Siltzer. Julia is also a curator, creative branding strategist, and founder of Mysterious Garden Party, a fashion line focused on repurposing used denim.

The name Soul Peel comes from the title of a media journal Julia worked on privately as a teen, arranging snapshots of artists and visionaries that inspired her into a single, curated page. In college, Julia was known for the citrus tree she nurtured through her studies that would bloom inside of her apartment even on cold, winter days. The sentiment behind Soul Peel lies in the unique spark that  everyone possesses beneath the surface, something that deserves to be unearthed and nurtured.

This site is an invitation to explore the lives of creative people who have chosen to share their gifts with others, highlighting unique and inspiring businesses, makers, and innovators. Explore a careful selection of biographies, destinations, events and craftspeople. The author hopes that Soul Peel will inspire others to admire and support the creative contributions of others, and to consider their own unique presence in the world.

Many of the most beautiful photographs on Soul Peel are the works of photographer, videographer, event expert and the masterfully multihyphenate Mikihito Tsukahara. His photography portfolio can be enjoyed on his instagram handle, @photooftokyo.
